Canvas v5 Changelog

What's New?​

Canvas v5 is a major release featuring significant architectural changes, new tools, and expanded hardware and protocol support. Key highlights since Canvas v4 include:

  • New GUI objects — Page Link, Alarm Banner, Checkbox, Slider, File Selector, IP Camera Stream, Web Widget, Dial, and Waveform Graph.
  • Page Link object — display and switch between different pages within a defined area of the current page, without changing the active runtime page.
  • Alarm Banner object — display active alarm messages as scrolling text, with independent styling per alarm and per alarm item.
  • IO Device Redundancy — configure a Primary and Secondary PLC connection for Ethernet-based devices, with automatic or manual failover if the primary connection is lost.
  • Dynamic Tag Binding — bind object parameters to a tag that changes at runtime based on conditions checked against a base tag, in addition to the existing Expression options.
  • 12 new communication drivers — Beckhoff TwinCAT ADS, Codesys V3, DNP3 (Ethernet and Serial), Keyence Host Link, Koyo DirectNET, Panasonic FP, ATIVA (Ethernet and Serial), Siemens LOGO, Siemens PPI Direct, and User Protocol Serial.
  • SWU directly from Canvas — perform software updates to devices without leaving the designer.
  • Redesigned Settings app with new security modes and user group-based access.
  • On Insufficient Permission property added to all GUI objects for granular access control.
  • Alarm capacity increased — projects can now contain up to 2,500 alarms, with a maximum log capacity of 5,000 events.

    • String tags should now use the length defined in the Codesys project as the tag's Max Length.
      • Previously, the imported value would use the size defined in the XML, which included an additional byte for a null terminator.
