Remote Downloading (ADTRAN NetVanta 3140 Router)
Guide to setting up port forwarding for TCP and UDP using an ADTRAN NetVanta 3140 Router for remotely accessing the Canvas Software on your HMI from an external network.
Important Note: This guide is based specifically on our network environment setup and serves as an example. Your exact IP addresses, zones, and configurations may differ depending on your setup. However, the general process and protocols (TCP/UDP) remain consistent.
Step 1: Log into your Router
Enter your router’s internal IP (For this example it’s 192.168.1.1) into your web browser. Log in using your admin credentials.

Step 2: Navigate to Security Zones
On the router's homepage, click on: Data → Router / Bridge → Firewall → Security Zones

Step 3: Accessing 'Public' Security Zone
In the Security Zones section: Click on the Public security zone to open its settings.

Step 4: Add a New Port Forwarding Policy
Click the Add Policy to Zone 'Public' button to create a new firewall rule.

Step 5: Select Policy Type (Port Forward)
Under the Policy Type dropdown menu: Select "Port Forward" and click Continue.

Step 6: Configure Port Forwarding Details
In the new policy configuration:
Enter the Private IP Address of the target device (in our example, the IP is 192.168.1.202 which belongs to our HMI running Canvas Software). Select the option: Forward only traffic specified below. Under the Protocols/Ports to Forward:
Select protocol TCP, enter the specific port number (41677 in our example). Click "Add protocol/ports" again and select protocol UDP, enter the specific port number (41676 in our example). Click Apply once both TCP and UDP have been entered correctly. Note: These TCP (41677) and UDP (41676) ports are specifically used by our Canvas Software and will remain the same for public port forwarding.

Step 7: Verify the Configuration After applying settings, confirm your policy appears under:
Modify/Delete Policies in Security Zone 'Public'. You should now see your newly added policy (any: -> 192.168.1.202) listed.
This indicates your policy to forward incoming traffic from any public IP address to your internal HMI device (192.168.1.202) using the specified ports has been successfully created.

Setting up the IP Configuration within Canvas Once port forwarding has been successfully configured on your router, you can now remotely connect to your HMI using Canvas. This section walks through how to manually add a device using its public IP address.
Step 1: Open the Connection Setup Menu in Canvas
From the Canvas software interface:
Click the connection icon located in the upper toolbar (highlighted in red in the image).
This will open the Connection Setup window.

Step 2: Add a New Device
Once the Connection Setup window opens, click the "+" (Add Device) icon in the top left.
The system may begin auto-refreshing to search for devices on the network.
If your device does not show up automatically, proceed to the next step to manually enter the IP address.
Step 3: Manually Add the Public IP Address
A new dialog box titled Manually Add Device will appear.
Enter the public IP address of your HMI device (in our example: 174.67.83.147)
Click OK to proceed.
Step 4: Confirm Device Appears in the List
After entering the IP address, the HMI device should appear in the device list within the Connection Setup window.
You will now see the device listed by IP address, indicating a successful connection to the remote HMI.
Final Notes:
Ensure your firewall settings allow outbound TCP/UDP traffic on the ports used (e.g., 41677 for TCP, 41676 for UDP).
If the device does not appear after manual entry, double-check that port forwarding is active and your HMI is powered on and connected to the internet.
Use the VNC or Remote Control options on the right side of the Connection Setup window to manage or view the HMI remotely once the connection is established.
